On to Northwest Michigan

Image
After an overnight stop at a privately-owned family campground neart Lakeville, Indiana, we stay at another one near New Era, Michigan. We've been alternating one night and two night stops in order to be efficient in our towing and in order to rest adequately. It's no fun to be "dog tired" at the end of the day. Exercise helps, so we often take walks. Here, Jeri takes a break from walking to engage in another form of physical renewal. Whee! The next leg of our pilgrimage takes us to another RV resort in Benzonia, Michigan. After setting up camp we drive to Frankfort, Michigan, for an afternoon on the shores of Lake Michigan. There is a lighthouse at the end of a jetty here, so naturally, we take a photo sequence. We do our best to radiate smiles, greetings, love, and compassion to others. People often reciprocate, and for that, we are grateful.

Be warned: Campsite number 152 is very long and quite narrow. Somehow, with Jeri communicating and Roger driving, we managed to thread our way into the site on our very first try! Shade from those trees helped to cool us from the 90+ deg F heat of the afternoon. See how close? Shout out to Odon, Indiana! Finding no rest stops along Interstate 69, yesterday we "rolled the dice" and took a four mile detour to the city park at Odon. We found enough space to park the travel trailer for about 30 minutes, while we ate a picnic lunch under a covered and tree-shaded pavilion. The park was very busy with a youth baseball event underway. People smiled and waved, but didn't stop to talk. They seemed eager to go to a baseball game or eager to get out of the heat of the day after a baseball game.  Rested and fed, we got back in the truck and towed to the Hardin Ridge Recreational Area. Our plan is to stay two nights, then to resume our northward pilgrimage.

We stay overnight here... If you were a Monkees fan back in 1967, then you get it.

Trust us on this one!

Restart Here

We attend the last of the appointments with our medical doctors, but wait! Jeri’s doctor orders further tests, so we alter the beginning stage of our second year of pilgrimage. Our beginning was delayed last year, too, because the ophthalmologist prescribed LASER treatments for Roger’s eyes. When we traveled and camped in 2015 we asked ourselves daily, “Where have we seen Jesus?” During the past year of traveling and camping, we listened for invitations to serve each day, and we responded accordingly. Nowadays, anticipating another year of pilgrimage, we seem to be discerning our purpose: With words and actions reflecting back to others the beauty, dignity, and worth we see in them—and especially to those who are different from us.
