Tip of the Mitt and Beyond

 We camp for several days in Benzonia, Michigan, as indicated here:


Nearby Frankfort is a delight to us.


So are several communities around Northwest Michigan that we visit. We spend a lovely Sunday afternoon at the city beach in Beulah, Michigan.




Then we break camp and tow to Saint Ignace, Michigan, where we plan to camp for a couple of weeks. It's our first opportunity to view Lake Huron.


The truck needed an oil change, so we drive to Cheboygan, Michigan, and get that job done.


Then we kick around town, see a few sights, and eat lunch, before driving back to Saint Ignace, across the Mackinac Bridge.

We meet a couple from Slapout, Alabama, at the Cheboygan Crib Light, and we talk with them for a while. We run into one another again later in the day at a restaurant. What a coincidence; what a blessing!

Saint Ignace endears, however, Roger falls ill with a summer cold. We'll take it slowly until strength is regained.




We view the fireworks display, but we did not take any photos. Greetings from Up North!

Hope Park

Roger and Jeri began the pilgrimage to “Here” with a sense of calling to serve whenever and wherever we are invited. After sharing this sense of calling with friends last week, they said, “Why don’t you come to Hope Park next Sunday afternoon, then, and help us? We will be teaching children to make prayer flags.” Neither of us had any experience with prayer flags, but sensing an invitation to serve, the reply had to be “Yes, we will.” It turns out that an ecumenically-sponsored fall fair had been planned for Sunday afternoon, November 12, at Hope Park in Eastpoint, Florida. Volunteers worked together to provide a safe, fun time for the community’s kids. They cooked hot dogs and burgers. They played live music. There was a cake walk, and yes, there were materials for decorating and flying prayer flags. The children played games, ate the food prepared for them, and talked among themselves. NOMADS

Jeri and I decided to join the NOMADS mission volunteers, staying extra days at Blue Lake Camp to assist with the projects of replacing outdoor seating and painting closets in several rooms in the camp's lodge. We met and worked with wonderful new friends. Check it out...

Almost Home

I had an interesting experience back in October. Jeri and I stayed in a hotel while our travel trailer was receiving maintenance service.  After we retrieved it, towed it to a campground, and set up camp I turned to Jeri and said, "It feels  good to be home." How odd! Reflecting on it, I surprised myself in feeling "at home" in our travel trailer,  instead of  feeling "at home" in our "permanent" house in Montevallo,  Alabama. I suppose the shift in "home" space crept over me gradually throughout the months we have lived in the travel trailer. Currently, we are spending a few weeks in the Birmingham, Alabama, area, keeping appointments with our dentist and doctors, and anticipating a happy Christmas celebration with our sons, their families,  and friends.
